Made You Look origin story series in celebration of our 20th year in business!
I built my business the old fashioned way.
By having a good location, with a beautiful storefront and attractive window displays.
By being open 7 days a week, having great customer service and most importantly a high quality and unique product. Then I relied on the one thing that mattered most…WORD-OF-MOUTH.
For the first 7 years, I worked 8 days a week. I had help, but no staff officially. I worked in trade with Kim Drosdick who is the ultimate OG member of our in-house roster of jewellers at the time. She used the studio free of charge in exchange for helping customers if I was unavailable. Did I mention that I had a baby the same year that I started my business?
Simon was 4 months old when the store opened. I had a nursery for him in the back of the studio. It was a very busy time. But I was 23 years old and didn’t know any different.
All I knew was that I was in love with the community of jewellers that I met at school in the Jewellery Arts Program at George Brown College, and was determined to create a platform for everyone to shine.
